A well-balanced dry Riesling from estate vineyards that show the distinctively forceful minerality of red slate soils.

This dry Riesling is produced with fruit from estate-owned vineyards in the red slate soils found in the contiguous Middle Mosel villages of Ürzig, Erden, Lösnich and Kinheim. Following the traditional methods of Ernst Loosen’s great-grandfather, Peter Loosen, this wine is fermented in 3,000-liter, neutral oak casks and kept on the full lees for 12 months. The extended lees contact stabilizes the wine naturally and gives it time to develop a harmonious balance.

The Domprobst vineyard is considered the finest part of the steep slope directly behind the village of Graache. It is renowned for producing wines with great depth and ageability. This limited-production GG was fermented with indigenous yeasts and kept in the barrel, on the full lees, for a year before bottling. The extended maturation time allows the wine to develop greater texture and a deeper natural harmony.

From a parcel of very old vines (“Alte Reben”), this wine was fermented naturally and kept on the full lees for a year to allow the wine time to develop greater texture and to find its natural harmony.

Ürzig produces wines of a completely unique nature, showcasing the typically exotic fruit flavors of the “spice garden,” with a rich texture, gentle acidity and lingering finish. Grosses Gewächs (GG) means “great growth” and is the designation for an estate’s best dry wine from a Grosse Lage (grand cru) vineyard. This Riesling GG is from a special parcel of old vines (“alte Reben”) that lies directly behind the village and is still referred to by its historical name, Urglück.

From a parcel of extremely old vines (“alte Reben”), this wine was kept on the full lees for a year before bottling. The GGR wines are selectively harvested from our finest parcels of very old, ungrafted vines. They are naturally fermented in the same way as the GGs, but stay for 24 months on the full lees in traditional Fuder casks. They are then held in bottle for a further 36 months before release. This extended maturation brings an extra dimension of finesse and balance to our wines.

They are naturally fermented in the same way as the GGs, but stay for 24 months on the full lees in traditional Fuder casks. They are then held in bottle for a further 36 months before release. This extended maturation brings an extra dimension of finesse and balance to our wines.
