Peter Barry Passes the Baton

Peter Barry Stands in The Armagh Vineyard at Sunset
After more than four decades at the helm, Peter Barry has officially passed the baton to the next generation, specifically, to his children, Tom and Sam Barry. It’s a milestone moment for Jim Barry Wines, marking both the continuation of a proud family tradition and the beginning of a new chapter.
“We’ve never been in the business of standing still,” Peter says. “My job, with the wise assistance of my wife Sue, was to build on what Mum and Dad started and now it’s time for the next generation to do the same. Tom and Sam have worked incredibly hard over the last 15 years, learning all facets of the business and I couldn’t be prouder and more pleased to pass the baton to them.”
With Peter’s legacy as their foundation, Tom and Sam are bringing fresh vision and energy to the Clare Valley, guiding Jim Barry Wines into its next era, one vintage at a time.
Smart Moves, Sustainable Wines

Lodge Hill Shiraz Now in a Light-Weight Glass Bottle
Sustainability at Jim Barry Wines isn’t a side project – it’s a foundational value. As a Toitū Carbon Reduce certified organization and proud member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, the Barry family is committed to making tangible, measurable changes across the business.
Most recently, that commitment shows up in the shift to lighter-weight glass bottles for two of their cornerstone wines: the Watervale Riesling and the Lodge Hill Shiraz. The new Shiraz bottle reduces glass usage by 128 grams per bottle, translating to a savings of 31 tons per year. The Riesling bottle goes even further, cutting 48 tons annually. These changes reduce the winery’s carbon footprint significantly, especially when it comes to international shipping, while maintaining the premium look and feel expected from Jim Barry Wines.
Achieving and maintaining key environmental certification is a priority for the Barry family and reflects a holistic, long-term approach to sustainability that reaches well beyond the vineyard.
