Falstaff Reviews Three Dr. Loosen GG Réserve Rieslings

In its October-November 2018 issue, German wine magazine Falstaff ran a story about white wines that are built to age, reviewing three of Ernst Loosen’s GG Reserve Rieslings and giving the Erdener Prälat a 100-point score!

In case you don’t read German, here’s an English translation of the three reviews:

2012 ERDENER PRÄLAT RIESLING RÉSERVE ALTE REBEN TROCKEN 100

Woodruff, balm, tumeric, iodine. On the palate it is filled to the brim with the finest silkiness, almost like a plush sofa, soft and cozy, yet elegant and fine. A dense texture, on the one hand present, but on the other hand completely weightless, floating and almost otherworldly, a delicate trace of acidity provides length. A ravishing texture.

2014 WEHLENER SONNENUHR RIESLING RÉSERVE ALTE REBEN TROCKEN 96

Slight barrel patina, cardamom, lemon zest, but all discreet, very restrained, silky and delicately textured, delicate with great vitality and inner tension, with juiciness and completely phenolically ripe, weightless, slightly peppery, has power, and sublimates into pure freedom.

2013 ERDENER PRÄLAT RIESLING RÉSERVE ALTE REBEN TROCKEN 96

Very open, slate spice, caraway, tomato stem, curry. Full mouthfeel, silky with delicate acidity, that is not too soft, but runs a continuous, fine track, with a light creaminess in the background. Additionally some phenols, dry, but somehow mild.
