J. Christopher Wines Opens New Tasting Room in Oregon’s Willamette Valley
New tasting venue in Newberg welcomes “drop-in” visitors for tastings and spectacular views and will be open Thankgiving weekend.
NOVEMBER 17, 2017 (Newberg, Oregon) – J. Christopher Wines in Newberg, Oregon, is delighted to announce that its beautiful new tasting room is now open and welcoming visitors.
Built on the hillside just above the winery cellars, the new tasting room offers visitors a spacious, comfortable and beautiful setting to enjoy J. Christopher’s award-winning wines.
Inside, the space has large glass doors that frame views of the vineyards, a stunning cherry wood bar from the winery’s own tree, and a cozy fireplace with couches and comfy chairs, perfect for relaxing with a glass of Pinot Noir on gray Oregon days.
Combining mid-century modern with rustic touches, the design is open and bright, with high ceilings, white oak floors, and rustic accents made with native woods harvested from the winery’s own property. Upstairs, an additional loft space with a table and chairs allows the winery to offer seated tastings for up to 12 people.
Outside, a generous stone patio with tables and chairs offers visitors a spectacular view of the Chehalem Mountain ridge and Bald Peak. Enveloping the patio and the tasting room entrance is a Zen-like garden combining artfully chosen plants with basalt boulders transplanted from elsewhere on the winery property.
The new building is highly energy efficient, with both active and passive solar features.
“Our philosophy for the tasting room design and construction has the same guiding principles as that for our wines,” says winemaker Jay Somers. “It reflects the best of old world and new world, embraces biodynamic principles and above all, is an expression of our profound celebration of the Chehalem Mountains AVA terroir.”
How to Visit
The new tasting room is open 10 am – 4 pm, seven days a week. Drop-by tasting is encouraged and appointments are not needed.
November Holiday Hours
On the weekend of November 18 and 19, J. Christopher will host its annual pre-Thanksgiving open house from 11 am – 3 pm. Winemaker Jay Somers will be pouring.
On Thanksgiving weekend, November 25 and 26, the tasting room will be open from 10 am – 4 pm both days.
