Top 100 Acclaim for Dr. Loosen and Villa Wolf
We are pleased to announce four wines from the Loosen Bros. portfolio have received Top 100 recognition for 2014. Erni Loosen’s Dr. L Riesling, Riesling Spätlese Erdener Treppchen, and Riesling Auslese Erdener Treppchen have been acknowledged by Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast. Erni, along with the talented wine making team Sumi Gebauer and Patrick Möllendorf, have revived Villa Wolf, a once fledging estate, into an internationally recognized estate producing distinctive wines. Our Villa Wolf Pinot Gris received Top 100 mention from Wine Enthusiast.
The 2012 Dr. L Riesling embodies the elegant and racy style of a classic Mosel Riesling. This earned Dr. L a rank of #40 in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2014. “This succulent white is filled with plush red peach, cherry and white currant flavors that are supported by zesty acidity. Long and creamy on the finish, offering plenty of spicy overtones.”
Coming in at #29 on Wine Enthusiast’s The Enthusiast 100 2014 is our 2012 Dr. Loosen Riesling Spätlese Erdener Treppchen. This is a fruit-driven Riesling with the grapes getting longer hang time allowing for deeper flavors to develop. “An intense experience on the nose and palate, this semi-sweet Riesling opens with a gorgeous bouquet of yellow flowers, stone fruit and musk against a backdrop of chalk and minerals. It’s richly fruity, with a sharp, honed acidity that’s shocking and penetrating. Finishes long, with an elegant honeyed touch.”
The 2012 Dr. Loosen Riesling Auslese Erdener Treppchen is a luscious sweet wine made from very ripe grape clusters. This age worthy wine earned the #90 spot on Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Cellar Selections 2014. “Lanolin and honeycomb lend a mineral slick to sweet peach and honey flavors in this lavishly rich Riesling. It’s marmalade sweet on the palate, yet brisk in lemon acidity that stretches out the finish.”
The fresh and fruity 2012 Villa Wolf Pinot Gris earned #59 on Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Best Buys 2014. “Fragrant white lilies and stone fruit perfume this bold, big-bodied wine. Dry in style, with lush white peach and pear flavors, it’s slightly heady and warm with alcohol. Steely, mineral tones and crisp lime acidity add elegance to the finish.”
